Russia struck Ukraine overnight with what Volodymyr Zelenskyy said were "more than a hundred different weapons" — jet-powered drones, loitering munitions and ballistic missiles — destroying a residential building in Kharkiv and hitting civilian infrastructure in Kyiv. Four people were killed in Kharkiv, and forty-one were injured there in a single evening. Russia, Zelenskyy said, "did not heed" Donald Trump's call for a ceasefire.

Ukraine's half of that bargain had already been delivered. Zelenskyy said Ukraine halted strikes on Russian oil refineries for two days after Trump's ceasefire announcement — and that during those two days, Russia attacked Ukraine's energy facilities and critical infrastructure. Nineteen regions of Ukraine came under attack in those two days alone, in what he called "absolutely clear signals" that Russia has no intention of refraining from strikes.

On Kyiv, five ballistic missiles hit civilian infrastructure. Ukraine received no early warning from its partners before the strike, Zelenskyy said — though intelligence on Russian ballistic missile launches is one of the most critical issues of the war, and early warning is precisely what prevents people from being killed.

Ukraine's position is unchanged, he said: the country is ready for reciprocal steps toward de-escalation, and everyone needs peace — a strong America, a strong Europe, and strong partners. What is missing is effective pressure on Russia. "Wars end when the aggressor realizes that it cannot prolong the war," Zelenskyy said, adding that global pressure on Russia brings peace closer, while direct or indirect support for Russia, slowing assistance to Ukraine, and making it harder to protect lives against ballistic missiles will not.

The overnight wave came as drone strikes hit civilian vessels in the Black Sea, with eleven crew members reported missing, and Bulgaria — a NATO state on the Black Sea — summoned the Russian ambassador.

In Kharkiv, the rescue operation continued virtually all night, as first responders searched for people under the rubble of an ordinary residential building.
